Interactive Programming, Checkpoint 1

I have spent the last few weeks attempting to gather the necessary resources, animations and art pieces to complete the assignment in which we were asked to make a Character be able to move within an environment and implement parallax scrolling, this was very time consuming, and too longer than intended, making me feel slightly behind in this assignment from the get go.

To further matters, the bit of Action Script that I do have written, is not working in any shape or form, what I have written so far is the code intended to implement parallax scrolling but is currently not working.

After looking around on forums and FAQs, I was unable to find a solution for my problems, and was unable to advance to another part of the code, such as implementing event listeners and stopping the character from walking off the environment.

I hope by next update to have fixed the code I am stuck on at the moment, and be onto writing the code for my character interacting with object in the environment, such as knocking over a crate of guns, and getting shot when he walks past a sign. I have below a .swf file of what it looks like so far.
